  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish Lightly greased for cooking

  • tomatoes For serving
  • sour cream For serving
  • crushed tortilla chips For serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Transfer the meat mixture to the greased baking dish and top with optional toppings before baking if desired.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until heated through and the cheese is melted if using. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding in some chopped onions or bell peppers with the ground beef while it cooks. For added spice, include diced jalapeños or hot sauce in the mixture. Cooking with cheese on top adds creaminess but can be omitted for a lighter version.
