  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened but not melted for best texture.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips You can also use nuts or dried fruit as mix-ins.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until well combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips (or any chosen mix-ins).
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

These cookies are perfect for serving warm right out of the oven. You can present them on a nice plate or stack them in a mason jar. Pair them with a glass of milk or coffee. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze for up to three months.
