Ingredients
  

Pasta and Cheese
  • 12 oz Lasagna noodles Can use no-boil noodles if preferred.
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 8 oz Mozzarella cheese For layering and topping.
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese Divided between layers and topping.
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Adds creaminess to the cheese mixture.
Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground beef or sausage For additional flavor, a blend of both is recommended.
  • 24 oz Marinara sauce To mix with meat and layer in the dish.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped.
  • 2 Tbsp Olive oil For sautéing the onion and garlic.
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • Fresh basil for garnish Fresh basil For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  4. Add ground beef or sausage, and cook until browned. Stir in marinara sauce and season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, cream cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese until smooth.
Assembly
  1. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce, then layer noodles, cheese mixture, and another layer of meat sauce. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  2. Sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

To store leftovers, let the dish cool completely and then cover it with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. For a vegetarian version, use cooked vegetables instead of meat and experiment with different cheeses for a richer flavor.
