Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost as desired and enjoy!
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for up to three months. Make sure to not overmix the batter, add flavors like lemon zest or chocolate chips for a twist, and allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
