Ingredients

For the strawberries
  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced Make sure the strawberries are ripe and sweet for the best flavor.
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the whipped cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream Don't overwhip; stop at stiff peaks.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For assembly
  • 1 pound cake or sponge cake Use fresh store-bought pound cake for best texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Toss to coat and let sit for about 30 minutes to macerate.
  2. Whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Assembly
  1. In a serving dish, layer the pound cake, followed by a layer of the macerated strawberries and a layer of whipped cream.
  2. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  3. Serve chilled, garnished with additional strawberries if desired.

Notes

Chill the dessert for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld. For a beautiful presentation, add a few extra strawberries on top, and optionally drizzle some strawberry syrup or sprinkle powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
