Preparation
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it into fine crumbles. Drain the excess grease.
- Return the beef to the skillet, add the sloppy joe sauce, and simmer until the mixture thickens.
- Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the bread slices butter-side down in the pan.
- Add one slice of cheese on each piece of bread, followed by a scoop of the thick sloppy joe mixture, then top with another slice of cheese and press to complete the sandwich.
- Cook without moving the sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
- Flip the sandwich gently, pressing down with a spatula and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until the second side is golden and the cheese is melted.
Serving
- Transfer the sandwich to a cutting board and let it rest for 1 minute before slicing diagonally and serving.
Notes
For best results, ensure the filling is thick to maintain structure. Can serve with tomato soup, pickles, or fries.
