Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup rice Rinse under cold water
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon oil Use vegetable oil for a vegan option
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetables (like peas and carrots) Steam or sauté until tender
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric Optional, for added color and flavor
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (like cilantro or parsley) Add for freshness at the end

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the salt and turmeric if using, and stir for a few seconds.
  3. Add the rinsed rice to the pot, and stir well to coat the rice in the oil and spices.
  4. Pour in the water and bring it to a boil.
  5. Once it boils, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
Cooking
  1. While the rice cooks, steam or sauté your chosen vegetables until they are tender.
  2. Once the rice is ready, fluff it with a fork and mix in the cooked vegetables and fresh herbs.
Serving
  1. Serve warm and enjoy as a main dish or side.

Notes

For more flavor, try adding spices like cumin or bay leaves while cooking the rice. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
