- Combine butter, milk, and sugar in a heavy 5-quart pot.
- Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture boils.
- Once it boils, stir continuously until the mixture reaches the 'soft ball stage'. Be careful not to cook on high heat.
- Remove the pot from heat and let it cool a bit while stirring until it loses its glossy appearance.
- Add the pecans and stir until the mixture starts to thicken.
- Drop spoonfuls onto foil or waxed paper to cool completely.
Notes
Store pecan pralines in an airtight container to maintain freshness. They can last for about one to two weeks at room temperature. For longer storage, refrigerate.
