Ingredients
  

For the cookies
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened Make sure to soften at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 piece egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cloves

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the molasses and egg until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
Baking
  1. Roll the dough into small balls and roll each ball in sugar if desired.
  2. Place the balls on a lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until set and crackly on top.
  4. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with milk or tea. They can be stored for a week in an airtight container. Freeze for up to a few months.
