  • 1 cup flour All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup sugar Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened) Ensure butter is softened, not melted
  • 2 eggs Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

This recipe is delightful on its own, but can also be served with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar adds a nice touch. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
