Ingredients

For the Burger
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 4 maple bourbon glazed donuts (or any glazed donut with a hint of maple or bourbon)
For the Candied Jalapeños
  • 1 cup sliced jalapeños (fresh or jarred)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes for extra heat
Optional Add-ons
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Red onion rings
  • Fried egg

Method

Making the Candied Jalapeños
  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and apple cider vinegar over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves, then add jalapeño slices. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until jalapeños are glossy and the syrup thickens. Let cool completely.
Cooking the Bacon
  1. In a skillet or on the grill, cook bacon strips until crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
Preparing and Grilling the Burger Patties
  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat your grill or skillet to medium-high. Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with cheddar cheese and let it melt.
Toasting the Donuts
  1. Slice each donut in half horizontally (like a bun). Lightly toast each side on the grill or in a dry pan for 1–2 minutes until the surface is caramelized and warm.
Assembling the Burger
  1. Place the bottom donut half on a plate. Stack with the cheesy burger patty, two slices of crispy bacon, a generous spoonful of candied jalapeños, and any optional toppings. Finish with the top donut half.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, with lots of napkins, and prepare to be blown away by the sweet, smoky, spicy explosion of flavor!

Notes

Don’t over-toast the donuts: You want them warm and slightly crisp, but not dry or hard. For spice lovers, mix chili flakes into the ground beef or top with hot sauce. Try different cheeses: Pepper jack or smoked gouda can enhance the flavor complexity. Want to go all in? Stack two patties and double the bacon. Serve with sides: Sweet potato fries, onion rings, or coleslaw pair well with this indulgent treat.
