Ingredients
  

Smoothie Ingredients
  • 1.25 cups orange juice Freshly squeezed for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice Adds extra tanginess.
  • 2 cups torn fresh kale Remove tough stems.
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and coarsely chopped Choose a sweet variety.
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh gingerroot Grate fresh ginger for the best taste.
  • 4 cubes ice cubes To chill the smoothie.
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon For a warm spice note.
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric Optional: or 1/4-inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled and finely chopped.
  • dash cayenne pepper Adds a little kick.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Cover and process until blended.
  3. Pour into chilled glasses and serve immediately.

Notes

Smoothie is best served cold. Consider garnishing with cinnamon or a slice of apple. For optimal freshness, consume immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
