Ingredients
  

Main ingredients
  • 1 piece onion bun For the sandwich base
  • 1 pound roast beef, sliced Must be sliced thinly for best texture
  • 1 cup au jus (beef broth or stock) Warm au jus for dipping
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Can substitute with other cheeses
  • to taste butter For toasting the bun
Optional toppings
  • to taste onions, sautéed For added flavor
  • to taste peppers, sautéed For added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, heat the au jus over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced roast beef and simmer until heated through.
  3. While the beef is heating, melt a little butter in a skillet and toast the onion bun until golden brown.
Assembly
  1. Once the beef is ready, place a generous amount on the bottom half of the toasted bun.
  2. Pour the hot au jus over the beef.
  3. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt slightly from the heat of the beef.
  4. Add any optional toppings and cover with the top half of the bun.
  5. Serve immediately with extra au jus for dipping.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store the sandwich components separately in airtight containers. The roast beef and au jus can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the bun if needed.
