  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced Slice thinly for even cooking.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Add flavor to the beef.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar or your choice) Experiment with different cheese types.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken.
  • 1 cup milk
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • to taste Optional: garlic powder, thyme, or other seasonings Customize flavors as desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef along with chopped onions until the beef is cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, and seasonings.
Layering
  1. In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the beef mixture, and half of the cheese.
  2. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, finishing with cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  2. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, use seasoned ground beef or add spices like paprika or Italian herbs. If you like a crispy top, broil it for a few minutes at the end of baking but watch closely.
