Ingredients

For the Meat Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion Peeled and finely minced
  • 4 cloves garlic Peeled and finely minced
  • 1 large green bell pepper Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
For Assembly
  • 6 pieces hoagie rolls Lightly toasted
  • 6 slices provolone cheese For topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the onion and garlic cloves, then pulse them together in a food processor until finely minced.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef.
  3. Add the minced onion, garlic, and chopped green bell pepper to the skillet.
Cooking
  1. Cook the mixture while stirring frequently until the beef is fully browned and the vegetables become soft and fragrant.
  2. Carefully drain the excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Return the meat mixture to the heat and add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Stir well so the beef becomes evenly coated with the savory seasoning.
Assembly
  1. Slice the hoagie rolls open and lightly toast the inside in the oven or on a skillet if desired.
  2. Fill each roll generously with the seasoned ground beef mixture.
  3. Place a slice of provolone cheese over the top of the meat inside each sandwich.
  4. Arrange the filled hoagies on a baking sheet and place them in the oven for a few minutes until the bread becomes lightly crisp and the cheese melts completely.

Notes

To prevent the bread from becoming soggy, lightly toast the inside of the hoagie rolls with a thin layer of butter before filling them with the meat mixture. You can also add sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, or jalapeños for a spicy twist. Other cheese options include mozzarella, cheddar, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack.
