German Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Main ingredients
  • 8 leaves cabbage leaves Choose green cabbage for pliability.
  • 400 g ground beef
  • 200 g ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
Sauce
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Blanch cabbage leaves until soft and pliable.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, cooked rice, egg, salt, and pepper.
  3. Take a spoonful of the meat mixture and place it onto each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf tightly to enclose the filling.
Cooking
  1. Arrange the rolls in a large pot. Pour the tomato sauce and beef broth over the rolls.
  2. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 45 to 60 minutes until the rolls are cooked through.
Serving
  1. Serve the cabbage rolls warm with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in some herbs or spices like parsley or garlic powder. If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
