German Plum Cake

Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 500 g plums, pitted and sliced
  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 100 ml warm milk Helps activate the yeast.
  • 75 g melted butter
  • 1 large egg
For the streusel
  • 100 g cold diced butter
  • 100 g flour
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Optional, adds flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, melted butter, and the yeast mixture. Add the egg and knead until you have a smooth dough.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Once risen, press the dough into a greased baking pan.
  3. Arrange the sliced plums on top of the dough.
  4. For the streusel, mix the cold diced butter, flour, sugar, and cinnamon until crumbly. Sprinkle it over the plums.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden.
  6. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Perfect with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
