Ingredients

For the strudel
  • 1 package phyllo dough or strudel dough
  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced Tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are recommended.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional) Pecans or almonds can also be used.
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts.
  3. Lay out the phyllo dough or strudel dough on a clean surface and brush with melted butter. Layer several sheets for sturdiness.
  4. Place the apple mixture along one edge of the dough and carefully roll it up, sealing the edges.
Baking
  1. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the top with more melted butter.
  2. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
  4. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar. It pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. To store, wrap tightly in plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for up to 3 days, or freeze in an airtight container.
