Ingredients

Burger Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns

Method

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
  2. While the onions are cooking, form the ground beef into four equal patties and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired doneness.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each burger to melt.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
Assembly
  1. To assemble, place the cooked burger on the bottom half of the bun, top with caramelized onions, and close with the top half of the bun.

Notes

Serve these burgers hot, right after you assemble them. Pair with crispy fries, a fresh salad, or your favorite dipping sauce. For extra fun, consider serving with a side of French onion soup for dipping. Store components separately in airtight containers for up to 3 days.
