Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped Chop into small pieces for even cooking.
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey Can substitute with cooked chicken or meat substitute.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups cooked rice Use leftover rice for convenience.
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Use cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Add additional spices for extra flavor if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or turkey with the chopped onion until fully cooked.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture, chopped cabbage, cooked rice, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Assembly and Baking
  1. In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the mixture, then sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  2. Add the remaining mixture on top and finish with the remaining cheese.
  3. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Serve hot with a green salad or crusty bread. Add extra cheese or herbs for garnish. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
