Ingredients
  

For the Beef
  • 3 lb chuck roast The most tender choice for slow cooking.
  • 2 cups beef broth Adds flavor and moisture.
  • 10.5 oz beef consomme Enhances the beef flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce For marinating and flavor.
  • 1 yellow onion Sliced for layering at the bottom.
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic Infuses flavor into the beef.
For Serving
  • 6 hoagie rolls Split for filling.
  • 6 slices provolone cheese Melted on top of the beef.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Scatter the sliced onion and garlic across the bottom of the crockpot.
  2. Set the meat right on top of the onion layer.
  3. Pour the beef broth, consomme, and soy sauce over the roast.
Cooking
  1. Cook on low all day until the meat shreds easily with a fork.
Assembly
  1. Pile the beef onto split rolls and top with a slice of cheese.
  2. Broil the sandwiches quickly to melt the cheese before serving with a cup of the juice.
  3. Toast the bread in the oven for a minute before adding the meat so the sandwich doesn’t get soggy when you dip it.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chuck roast in soy sauce the night before. You can add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms to the crockpot for more veggies. Try using different kinds of cheese like cheddar or Swiss.
