Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté onions and garlic until softened.
- In a separate bowl, combine heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a greased glass casserole dish.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the cheese.
- Add the remaining potatoes, followed by the rest of the cream mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.
Baking
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
To enhance the meal, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives. For added flavor, consider mixing in crispy bacon or cooked ham.
