  • 2 pounds potatoes (sliced) Choose starchy potatoes like Russets for best texture.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Alternatives like Gruyère or mozzarella can be used.
  • 1/2 cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté onions and garlic until softened.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a greased glass casserole dish.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the cheese.
  6. Add the remaining potatoes, followed by the rest of the cream mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  3. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To enhance the meal, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives. For added flavor, consider mixing in crispy bacon or cooked ham.
