  • 2 tbsp butter Unsalted is recommended
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup milk Dairy or non-dairy milk can be used
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Use a good quality cheddar for best flavor
  • 1/2 tsp salt Adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp paprika Adjust to taste; can add cayenne for heat
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper Adjust to taste

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add flour and whisk for about 1 minute until a smooth paste forms.
  3. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken.
  5. Add shredded cheddar cheese and stir until completely melted.
  6. Mix in salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  7. Cook for another minute until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  8. Pour hot over fries, nachos, burgers, or sandwiches.

Notes

Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days. Warm gently on low heat to reheat and keep smooth. Adjust seasoning according to taste and consider adding a splash of hot sauce for an extra kick.
