Ingredients

For the cake
  • 1 box white cake mix Ingredients listed on cake mix box (eggs, oil, water) will be needed.
  • 1/2 cup strawberry milk You can also use milk mixed with strawberry syrup.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pink food coloring Optional.
For the frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons strawberry milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring Optional but recommended.
  • Pink food coloring
For decoration
  • Cotton candy Optional, added just before serving.
  • Pink sprinkles Optional.
  • Fresh strawberries Optional.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Prepare cake pans with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix with the ingredients listed on the box (eggs, oil, and water). Add the strawberry milk, vanilla extract, and optional pink food coloring. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter evenly into prepared cake pans and bake according to the cake mix instructions until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting and assembling
  1. For the frosting, in a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar. Add the strawberry milk, vanilla extract, cotton candy flavoring (if using), and optional pink food coloring. Mix until fluffy and well combined.
  2. Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
Serving
  1. Before serving, top with cotton candy, pink sprinkles, and fresh strawberries if desired.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened before mixing for a smoother frosting. You can adjust the amount of strawberry milk in the frosting to achieve your desired consistency. To prevent your cake layers from sticking, make sure to properly grease your cake pans. If you want a stronger cotton candy flavor, use more cotton candy flavoring in the frosting.
