Preparation
- Unroll the dough and press it firmly into a standard glass pie dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and flour until well combined.
- Pour in the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and evaporated milk. Stir until completely smooth.
- Pour the dark batter straight into the unbaked pie crust.
Baking
- Bake in a preheated oven until the outer ring is set but the very middle still shakes slightly.
- Leave the pie to cool on the counter to thicken before cutting.
Serving
- Serve warm, optionally with ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
Notes
Do not overbake the pie to achieve the lava effect. Let the pie rest for a few minutes after baking for the molten center to develop.
