Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  2. Drizzle caramel sauce over the batter, then spoon the remaining batter on top.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  4. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
