Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch (23 cm) cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.
- Stir in the boiling water to achieve a thin and glossy batter.
Make the Cheesecake Layer
- In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg until smooth and creamy.
Assemble and Bake
- Pour half of the chocolate batter evenly into both pans.
- Gently spoon the cheesecake mixture over the batter.
- Pour the remaining chocolate batter on top and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
Prepare the Ganache
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until just about to boil.
- Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and shiny.
Assemble the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a bit of ganache on top.
- Add the second cake layer and pour the remaining ganache over the cake, letting it drip down the sides.
- Chill for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Use room-temperature ingredients for a smoother batter and filling. Add a pinch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor. For a luxurious finish, decorate with chocolate curls, fresh berries, or gold leaf.
