  • 1 loaf loaf of bread (French or Italian)
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as ribeye) Ensure beef is thinly sliced for quick cooking.
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded provolone or cheddar cheese Feel free to substitute with mozzarella or spicy pepper jack.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion and green pepper, cooking until soft.
  3. Add the sliced beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the beef is browned.
  4. Remove the mixture from heat and let cool slightly.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Cut the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the inside, leaving a thick crust.
  2. Fill the hollowed loaf with the beef mixture and top with shredded cheese.
  3. Replace the top of the loaf and wrap it in foil.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.
  5. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

Serve with a side of marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce. For extra flavor, consider adding garlic or mushrooms to the beef mixture. Don't skip the foil wrapping while baking for a soft loaf.
