Ingredients

Coffee Base
  • 6 ounces 6 ounces whole milk (or milk of choice) You can use any milk you prefer.
  • 3 ounces 3 ounces espresso (2 shots) (or ½ cup strong coffee) Use strong coffee if espresso is not available.
Caramel Flavoring
  • 2 Tablespoons 2 Tablespoons caramel syrup (or caramel sauce) Adjust amount based on personal taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. Brew espresso or strong coffee as desired, and pour it into a mug.
Heating Milk
  1. Pour milk and caramel syrup into a 12-ounce or larger mason jar. Microwave for 1 ½ minutes, heating in 30-second increments if needed until hot but not boiling.
  2. Carefully remove the jar, use a towel or potholder as it will be hot.
  3. Put the lid on the jar, and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the milk has doubled in size.
  4. Remove the lid carefully, being aware of any built-up pressure.
Serving
  1. Pour the foamed milk into the mug of espresso, and top with any remaining foam in the jar. Serve immediately with whipped cream and additional caramel drizzle, if desired.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, but can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat gently before consuming. For a salted caramel version, sprinkle sea salt on top.
