Burger Buns

Freshly baked homemade burger buns that are soft and delicious, perfect for your favorite patties or sandwiches.

Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk Make sure the milk is warm, not hot.
  • 1 large egg
Toppings
  • Sesame seeds For topping the buns

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, egg, and butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise for 1–2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shaping and Proofing
  1. After it rises, divide the dough into equal portions. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a baking tray.
  2. Let the balls proof again for 30–40 minutes.
Baking
  1. Brush the tops with milk or an egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  2. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 18–20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.
  3. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store cooled buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them wrapped well in plastic for up to 3 months. For softer buns, cover them with a kitchen towel as they cool.
