Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 can 10.5 oz Campbell's condensed French onion soup (divided)
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
For the gravy
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1-3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 cup water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix 1/3 cup of the French onion soup with the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into 6 oval patties.
Cooking
  1. Brown the patties on both sides in a skillet over medium heat, then drain the grease.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour with the remaining soup, ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder.
  3. Pour the gravy mixture over the patties in the skillet, cover, and let it simmer for 20 minutes.

Notes

Serve the Salisbury steak hot with gravy over the top. Ideal accompaniments include mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles. Consider adding steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
