Ingredients

  • 1.25 kilograms beef Cut of your choice, such as chuck or sirloin.
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 fresh lemons juice Juice from fresh lemons.
  • 3 medium potatoes Fried for serving.
  • 1 can liver spread
  • 3 star anise
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 tbsp margarine For sautéing.
  • 60 g grated cheese For serving.
  • 5 cloves garlic Minced.
  • 1 large onion Chopped.
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ground black pepper To taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Marinate the beef with lemon juice, soy sauce, and ground black pepper for about 1 hour. Strain the marinade sauce and set aside.
  2. Fry the potatoes in a pan with oil until cooked. Set aside.
Cooking
  1. In the same pan, add margarine. Sauté the garlic until browned, then add the onion and bell peppers. Cook until soft.
  2. Add bay leaves and tomato paste, and sauté for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the marinated beef and sauté until browned. Then, add the liver spread, tomato sauce, and the marinade sauce. Sauté for 5 minutes.
  4. Add water and beef cubes, and cook until tender.
  5. Add star anise and brown sugar, and continue cooking until the sauce thickens and reduces.
Serving
  1. Serve the beef roast hot on a plate, with some fried potatoes on the side. You can also add a warm bowl of rice to soak up the delicious sauce. A sprinkle of grated cheese on top enhances the flavors even more.

Notes

Always marinate the beef for at least an hour to let the flavors soak in. Make sure to sauté the vegetables until they are soft; this adds great texture to the dish. If you prefer a little kick, you can add some chili or hot sauce to the dish while cooking. Experiment with different herbs and spices to find your perfect flavor profile.
