Materials
  • Various sizes and shapes Colorful beads Choose different sizes for added depth.
  • 1 piece Wire or string Wire should be about 18 inches long; use string for easier handling.
  • 1 template Dragonfly template You can draw or print a template.
  • 1 piece Scissors For cutting the plastic sheet if used.
  • 1 tool Pliers Needed if using wire.
  • 1 sheet Clear plastic or acrylic sheet Optional, used for the backing.

Method

Creating the Suncatcher
  1. Choose the colors of beads you want for your dragonfly.
  2. Use the dragonfly template to outline the shape on your clear plastic sheet, if using. Cut out the shape.
  3. If using wire, cut a piece that's about 18 inches long. For string, make it a bit longer for easier handling.
  4. Begin stringing the beads onto the wire or string, following the outline of the dragonfly shape.
  5. Use pliers to twist the wire at the ends to secure the beads or tie knots if using string.
  6. Once all beads are on, make a loop at the top of your dragonfly for hanging.
  7. If you want a backing, glue the beaded dragonfly onto the clear plastic sheet for added support.
  8. Allow it to dry if glued, then hang it up in a sunny window.

Notes

To showcase your suncatcher, hang it in a sunny window or outdoors. Store it safely in a box or cloth bag to avoid breakage and keep it away from moisture.
