  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Make sure it is softened for easier mixing.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Use walnuts or pecans based on your preference.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips For extra chocolatey flavor, add more chocolate chips.
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Almond extract can be used for a different flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • to taste unit Powdered sugar for dusting Optional, for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients with the wet mixture.
  6. Stir in the chopped nuts and chocolate chips.
  7. Spread the mixture into a greased 9×9 inch baking pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool, then cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

This dessert can be served warm or at room temperature and pairs well with coffee or tea. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days; or freeze for up to three months.
