Ingredients

  • 3 cups diced apples Chop into small, even pieces.
  • 2 cups brown sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Helps to balance flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg Optional, for extra flavor.
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 packet fruit pectin (1.75 oz) To help the jam set.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, combine diced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbly.
  3. Stir in the fruit pectin and bring to a boil again.
  4. Boil for 1 minute while stirring continuously.
  5. Remove from heat and ladle the jam into sterilized jars.
  6. Seal and process in a water bath for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Let cool and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Make sure to sterilize jars before filling them. Store in the refrigerator for up to several weeks. If canned properly, it can last for up to one year.
